PS5 Can Read PS3, PS2, and PS1 Games, But Legal Issues in 2023!

The PS5 would have all the capacity to run video games from four, three and even two generations ago; however, its backward compatibility will only include the PS4. Why is it so difficult to play PS1 , PS2 or PS3 games ? A developer released one of the strongest reasons that few fans had contemplated.

The PS5 promised to be one of the most backward compatible consoles in history. Sony’s vocabulary for embracing functionality and stating that the PlayStation 5 would be “the ultimate console” made many dream of afternoons of classics, playstation 5, dusting off old CD-ROMs, DVDs or Blu-ray discs for PS3.

The harsh reality was revealed in Mark Cerny’s forgettable conference on the PS5 , where he detailed that the platform would only be able to run “some PS4 games” . Hours later, and with half the community protesting, Sony changed Cerny’s speech to ” most PS4 games .”

What happened to the PS1, PS2 and PS3 titles?

Why can’t the PS5 run them? Is it a business decision? The question has been left open for many months, but an answer came from a somewhat more authoritative voice.

“As a developer, though, I can see where legal issues can blur everything, especially if the goal is to get all those games out in stores,” Jutras said. “Some companies no longer exist and the licences for those games can be difficult to understand. I also understand that older consoles may have some form of DRM on their hardware that prevents their discs from being played on newer platforms.”

The director concluded by expressing his wish that backwards compatibility was not something new, but simply a normally expected feature, covering all titles. Something that commonly happens on PC, but not on consoles Although Jutras is right in most of his speech, the truth is that PS3 and PS2 emulation are still far from ensuring an optimal state for commercialization; even so, if this were not the case, the legal issue that he pointed out would be enough to not include the backward compatibility of those systems in the PS5 .

PS5 would have instant demos and all games could be tested in a matter of seconds

The PS5 could bring one of the newest features of the next generation, making any game playable in a matter of seconds. The demos would be instantly available on the PlayStation Store.

The report comes from PS5 Only, an account specializing in rumors about the PlayStation 5 . In their publication they detail that “the new PS Store interface will allow you to search and try any game instantly.”

The process would make any game on the PS5 “playable in seconds”, without traditional downloads or waiting before deciding to buy the game. Check all the details in this link .
